Apple iPod Sales Statistics
The Apple iPod since its introduction in 2001 has generated enormous sales worldwide. It is more or less the de-facto portable music (and possibly video) device in the world. In fact the term "iPod Generation" is now part of Western vernacular.
Here's a glimpse at recent iPod sales trends:
iPod Sales Snippits
- Apple announced in April 2007 that the 100 millionth iPod has been sold. Apple claims the iPod is the fastest-selling music player in history. (Source)
- More than 70 percent of 2007 model year cars offer iPod integration. (Source)
- Apple shipped 1,606,000 Macintosh® computers and 21,066,000 iPods during the 2007 1st quarter, representing 28 percent growth in Macs and 50 percent growth in iPods over the year-ago quarter. (Source)
- For the 2006 4th quarter, iPod shipments grew 35 percent from the same period a year ago. (Source)
- For the fiscal year 2006, Apple sold 5.3 million Macs. iPod sales for the year totaled 39 million units—just under 8.8 million iPods were sold in the fourth quarter. (Source)
- The iTunes Store now accounts for 85 percent of the songs downloaded in the U.S. The iTunes Store is now open in 21 countries, which the company estimates covers nearly 90 percent of the market for where music is downloaded legally. (Source)
